Our Philosophy
We believe every dream comes with obstacles. In order for you to overcome those obstacles you need to surround yourself with people who are where you want to be. You need role models who will provide you both encouragement and support. We are committed to empowering our youth so that they can break the cycle of spiritual, emotional, academic, social and economic strongholds that impede their progress. We are grateful for the individuals that have partnered with us thus far and we are looking forward to adding more willing volunteers to our team. We rely on the support of our volunteers because they are the heartbeat of our organization and are committed to what we are doing. Our volunteers understand that we are one team committed to making a difference.
Who can be a Volunteer?
We work with individual volunteers as well as families, college students, corporate teams and retirees. Age is not necessarily a factor but your passion is.
Group/Rap Session mentors
We meet with students at least twice a month. We offer a group-mentoring model that allows us to provide encouragement as well as support in an open discussion format held at our monthly activities and outings. In addition to group sessions we strive to create unity and provide positive outlets for our youth through activities such as rock/ wall climbing, golfing, camping and horseback riding.
Grant Writer
If you have experience writing grants we could use your help! You can assist our corporate office with writing grants and identifying additional funding resources.
We are looking for Chaperones for our annual Historically Black Colleges and Universities Tour
Seeking Chaperones for our Annual Spring Historical Black College and University Tour - In 2017 We will offer high school students the opportunity to attend a tour of several Historically Black Colleges and Universities. This tour will allow many Euclid and surrounding neighborhood high school students the opportunity to visit six to eight historically black colleges and universities throughout the country. This program will give many students the chance to visit institutions such as Howard University in Washington, D.C.; Hampton University in Hampton, Virginia; North Carolina A&T University in Greensboro, North Carolina; Fisk University in Nashville, Tennessee; Bethune-Cookman University in Daytona Beach, Florida; Clark Atlanta University, Morehouse College and Spellman College in Atlanta, Georgia. We offer this tour annually every spring and we are in need of chaperones each year.
Dance, Music and Arts Instructors
As we strive to expand our program we are looking for individuals to help our children bring out their creative side through writing, painting, drawing, singing and dancing. If you have talent in one or more of these areas, we need you.
Tutors
Many people believe that just because you don’t attend an inner city school that you don’t struggle academically or conversely because you live in a “suburban” community school you in turn can afford the additional help that a your child may need. In these situations we believe that some children simply get lost in the shuffle. Therefore, The Joseph Legacy offers a free tutoring service for students who are struggling academically. We strive to match our volunteers one-on-one with students in the 6th through 12th grades.
Our Tutors are required to meet on a regular basis once or twice a week with their assigned students. Thus, the students are provided support in the areas of reading and math as well as homework and test preparation, etc. If you like working with young people and can teach basic skills, please consider joining our team. All volunteers are required to complete a volunteer application and pass a background check.
